Living808: Popoki + Tea cat cafe pop-up

HONOLULU (KHON2) – On October 20th Popoki & Tea held a cat café pop up event.

Cat cafes provide an alternative public platform for rescue cats to find permanent homes.

They’re like regular cafes, with a separate cat lounge that guests can choose to enter.

The increased exposure the cats receive in a social cafe environment increases their chances of being adopted.

Hawai‘i can benefit from cat cafes because of O‘ahu’s pronounced cat overpopulation issue—the high volume of cats that need loving homes.

Popoki & Tea is the first cat cafe that will specialize in boba tea.

Cat cafes typically take on the traditional coffee shop model with cats.

Popoki & Tea works with the nonprofit, Fifi’s Feline Friends, which does cat rescues around the island.

Fifi’s Feline Friends is the only nonprofit in the world that is authorized to trap, neuter, release and manage cat colonies on military installations.

We help Fifi’s find permanent homes for their rescues and fosters.

The Public Pet, a pet supply shop in Kaimuki, has also been an awesome partner and host for the pop-ups.

The pop-ups are free and first-come, first-served, so expect a line.

They’ll be testing out appointment-based pop-ups soon.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for announcements!
